Major bank appoints new head of sustainable finance

One of the big four banks has appointed a new head of sustainable finance solutions for loans and specialised finance, effective immediately.

Katharine Tapley, who was working as a senior member of ANZ's sustainable finance solutions (SFS) team since its formation in 2014, was appointed acting head in June this year.

Ms Tapley has now been officially named as head of SFS, loans and specialised finance.

Christina Tonkin, the managing director of loans and specialised finance, said Ms Tapley was elected to the role for her “strong contribution” to the SFS team as well as her “depth of knowledge” and “extensive transactional experience”.

“In the acting role, she has further entrenched ANZ’s growing reputation for sustainable finance capability,” Ms Tonkin said.

“These attributes have enabled Katharine to be instrumental in a number of innovative business development initiatives, including developing ANZ’s green bond capability following our own issuance last year, executing ANZ’s first consumer finance facilities for rooftop solar and batteries, and implementing a key partnership in the water sector with the Australian Water Association.”

Ms Tapley is currently a board member of the Carbon Market Institute and is an advisory panel member for the Australia-Indonesia Centre’s Urban Water Cluster research project.

New CEO for ANZ Taiwan

As well as Ms Tapley’s appointment, the big four bank has also announced that Peter Chan, the current CEO of ANZ in the Philippines, has been chosen as Terry King’s successor in the role of CEO Taiwan.

Mr Chan will take up the role on January 2, following Mr King’s retirement.

However, the outgoing Taiwan CEO will continue to support ANZ as a non-executive director of ANZ Taiwan’s board and will work with the new CEO in an ongoing consultancy capacity.

Charles Rodriguez, head of local corporates in the Philippines will become acting ANZ CEO Philippines once Mr Chan leaves the role.
