ANZ Wealth manager joins FSC

The Financial Services Council has appointed Allan Hansell, ANZ Wealth’s senior manager for government and regulatory affairs, as its new director of policy.

As head of policy, Mr Hansell will be responsible for public policy development, research and advocacy at the industry body, which represents Australia's retail and wholesale funds management businesses, superannuation funds, life insurers, financial advisory networks and licensed trustee companies.

He takes on the role of director of policy from Andrew Bragg, who resigned earlier this year to become director of policy and research at Menzies Research Centre.

Mr Hansell has more than 25 years of experience in politics and policy, having held roles in government, industry organisations and the private sector, such as ING Australia.

He was national government relations manager with the Insurance Council of Australia from 2001-2007 and has also worked as a senior adviser to ministers in the NSW and Victorian governments.

Speaking of Mr Hansell’s appointment, FSC CEO Sally Loane said: “We are delighted to have Allan joining us. With more than a quarter of a century of experience across government and the wealth management industry including policy development, media relations and deep stakeholder engagement, he has the credentials to take us forward into a very busy year for financial services.”

Mr Hansell added: “I am very much looking forward to working with Australia’s peak financial services body as the industry enters what is likely to be a very important year in terms of public policy.

“FSC members provide enormous value in helping customers achieve their wealth needs, this is a great opportunity to work with the FSC team to build on the strengths of our industry.”
