AMP confirms CEO transition dates

AMP has confirmed when chief executive Francesco De Ferrari will step down and when his replacement will take the reins.

Alexis George, deputy CEO at ANZ, will assume her new role as chief of AMP from 2 August.

The current CEO, Mr De Ferrari, will step down from his role on 30 June, with chief financial officer James Georgeson to serve as acting chief until Ms George commences.

Meanwhile, the group has also appointed US fund manager Shawn Johnson as its new CEO for the asset management arm AMP Capital.

Mr Johnson was chair and senior managing director of investment giant State Street Global Advisors for almost a decade.

In the new role, he will be charged with leading AMP Capital’s international growth strategy and the proposed demerger of its private markets business, expected to wrap up in the first half of 2022.

As previously indicated, AMP will spin off and list the AMP Capital unit on the ASX, having sold off other components such as the global companies business.

Mr Johnson will replace AMP Capital deputy CEO David Atkin, who will step down from 31 July, after the new chief commences on 28 June.

Previously, Mr Honson also served as the volunteer chair of non-profit organisation Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council (FSSCC) from 2008 to 2010, where he worked with US governments and regulators.

More recently, he led his own alternative investments business, Guidon Global.

AMP chair Debra Hazelton said his experience will be “invaluable”.

“As AMP Capital separates from AMP and establishes a new culture and brand, Shawn has clearly demonstrated his capability to lead and inspire teams of highly capable investment professionals,” Ms Hazelton said.
