Westpac announces new appointment

Westpac has appointed Aziz Dean as head of loans and syndications for corporate and structured finance.

Mr Dean will be responsible for managing Westpac’s loans and syndications business across the Asia Pacific.

He joins Westpac with more than 15 years’ experience in corporate finance, and was previously the managing director and head of corporate finance for Citibank Japan.

Mr Dean also held the position of managing director and head of global loan products and leveraged finance during his tenure at Citibank Australia, where he helped rebuild the loan syndications franchise for the merger of Citibank and Salomon Smith Barney.

Westpac said the appointment of Mr Dean reflects the bank’s “growing ambition as a strategic player in the Asian market, particularly with Asian corporates looking to raise capital for acquisitions and investments in Australia”.

Mr Dean will commence his role on February 9.
